Our Work

Mission

Heemang Foundation exists to bridge the gap in the medical system by providing compassionate, comprehensive care and support to individuals and their families. We offer and facilitate evidence-based, client-centered residential programs designed to meet each person’s unique needs. Through our work, we create a path toward lasting recovery—grounded in dignity, connection, and hope.

Purpose

The Foundation’s purpose is to ease the financial burden for individuals seeking support and for their families by both facilitating access to care and subsidising treatment where it is needed most. We provide a home-like residential environment with round-the-clock support from experienced professionals, creating a space that feels safe, personal, and grounded in dignity.

Our programs are thoughtfully tailored to each individual, moving beyond group-based, one-size-fits-all models to offer care that truly reflects each person’s unique experience and needs. We also support the transition back into everyday life by offering continued guidance, including respite and part-time residency options, so that recovery can be sustained with confidence and stability.

Through a multidisciplinary and holistic approach, Heemang Foundation is committed to helping individuals move toward lasting freedom from their disorder. We walk alongside each person with compassion and care, supporting full recovery in an environment that is both clinically sound and deeply human.

Funding

As Heemang Foundation is a registered charitable organization it is sustained by the generosity of our community. Every donation—large or small—directly supports individuals and families seeking recovery, helping us expand access to care and offer meaningful financial assistance where it is needed most. Charitable tax receipts are provided for all eligible contributions.

Our programs are not government-funded and are typically accessed on a fee-for-service basis. We recognize that the cost of care can be a significant barrier, and we are committed to easing that burden by facilitating access and providing subsidies whenever possible. Donations allow us to extend this support, ensuring that more individuals can receive the level of care they need to move toward lasting recovery.

While services facilitated through Heemang Foundation are not generally covered by BC Medical or most private extended health plans, we continue to advocate for greater accessibility and work closely with families to explore all available options. The impact of each contribution reaches far beyond the individual—it helps restore stability, hope, and healing within entire families.

Background

Delays in accessing care can lead to a significant worsening of both physical and mental health, increasing the risk of relapse into harmful coping patterns and, in some cases, life-threatening consequences. Eating disorders are complex conditions that require an integrated approach—one that thoughtfully combines medical care with specialized psychological support.

Did you know?

Eating disorders affect people of all ages, genders, socioeconomic classes, racial backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities.

According to Jessie's Legacy Eating Disorders Prevention Program, eating disorders affect approximately 135,000 individuals in British Columbia. Beyond this, many more struggle with disordered eating and body image concerns without meeting formal diagnostic criteria—yet their suffering is no less real or deserving of care.

At Heemang Foundation, we recognize that a diagnosis should never be a barrier to receiving support. Individuals and families often share how stressful and disheartening it is to wait for access to care. As time passes, motivation can diminish, and both physical and emotional health may decline, leaving individuals increasingly vulnerable.

Barriers such as limited access to public resources, strict diagnostic or age criteria, and the high cost of private treatment continue to prevent many from receiving timely help. The shortage of specialized treatment options and hospital beds further compounds these challenges, placing immense strain on both individuals and their caregivers.

In response, Heemang Foundation implements the Heemang Method—an approach designed not to replace the existing system, but to strengthen and complement it. Grounded in clinical insight and lived experience, the Heemang Method focuses on individualized, compassionate, and continuous care that addresses both the psychological and physical aspects of recovery. It aims to bridge critical gaps in the current system, offering timely support and a more personalized path toward healing.

Through this work, we strive to provide not only care, but also hope—ensuring that individuals and their families are supported before reaching a point of crisis, and guided toward lasting recovery with dignity and understanding.

Success

over 50 Lives

over 15 Years

Over 50 lives over the past 15 years helped to take a path towards sustainable recovery.

Recovery is a journey.
It’s important to know that obstacles will arise, which will stand in the way of achieving exactly what you want, and that's okay. It takes loving yourself to accept that you are allowed to fail, and it takes that same fierce love to allow accepting it. Your journey will be full of ups and downs, tears, and laughter.
Recovery will likely be the hardest thing you go through, but it will also be the most rewarding thing you achieve.
